The use of mushrooms as medicine has been traced back thousands of years. This workshop will focus on the amazing health benefits and basic identification skills for common medicinal mushrooms. Through lecture and demonstration we will also cover preparing mushrooms for the most potent and effective medicine.

Katherine Novotny, RH(AHG)

Katherine is a herbal educator/practitioner, an urban homesteader, and an artist. She believes in accessible, and affordable health care and empowers students to pursue healing through backyard gardens, kitchen potions, and deepening their connection to their local forests. Novotny is a Professional Member of the American Herbalist Guild, taught as a core faculty member at the Ohlone Herbal Center in Berkeley, CA and currently has a private herbal practise in Bloomington, Indiana. Since 2012, she has been in a continuous mentorship with Dr. William Morris; learning and teaching TCM Pulse Diagnosis as a tool for advanced herbalist in a clinical setting. She loves weaving stories of herbal folklore into lectures and teaching about different body systems. Novotny comes from a Eastern European lineage filled with crafty, green-thumbed influences. When she is not teaching herbal medicine, you could find her camping in her old truck, laying on the forest floor admiring mushrooms, or in the backyard gardening, wrangling chickens, or staring at her bees. She has been known to stop at a yard sale or two.
